The NHLBI Division of Lung Diseases has an immediate need for physician scientists (program officers) to provide critical leadership and programmatic support for extramural research on lung diseases and sleep.  

The Role

Physicians advise the Institute on future scientific directions that encourage research in critical areas, develop targeted programs to foster innovative and high impact research, interact with investigators in diverse scientific areas, assess the progress of awarded grants and contracts, and serve as an expert resource for the scientific community and the public.

Requirements

The ideal candidates will have 1) knowledge of pathobiology, immunology, physiology, or epidemiology, 2) clinical experience with the lung diseases, and 3) research experience that is relevant to pulmonary medicine. Research background may be in basic, translational, clinical, or implementation science and specific areas of interest to the division include asthma, pediatric lung disease, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and, in particular, ARDS, critical care, sepsis, or pneumonia.
